According to the Tempe area Mazda dealerships, significant changes for 2021 include a new Carbon Edition trim that features unique Polymetal Gray paint and red upholstery. The top-of-the-line Signature trim now comes with a higher-definition 360-degree camera, driver-attention alert, and rear automated emergency braking. The infotainment system gets a larger 10.3-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the new Mazda Connect interface. Mazda Connected Services features a Wi-Fi hotspot and a remote smartphone app.
The 2021 Mazda CX-5 continues to get great reviews from the automotive media. Consumer Reports writes:
“The CX-5 is one of the best small SUVs. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission make for a responsive and unobtrusive powertrain. Fuel economy of 24 mpg is good ... The 2021 Mazda CX-5 seats five and is available in six trim levels, listed as Sport, Touring, Carbon Edition, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve and Signature. All trims except the top Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models employ a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 187 horses and 186 lb-ft of torque. The other two trims are equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit that makes 250 hp and 320 lb-ft when fueled with 93-octane gas. Fill it with regular, and you’ll get 227 hp and 310 lb-ft. This engine is available in the CX-5 Carbon Edition. Whichever model you choose, you’ll get a six-speed automatic gearbox, standard front-wheel drive, and available all-wheel drive.
Fuel economy is excellent. The 2021 CX-5 gets an EPA-estimated rating of up to 35 mpg city/31 mpg highway.*
Standard features in the entry-level Sport trim include gray 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with automatic high beams, cloth seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, pushbutton start, an electric parking brake, dual exhaust outlets, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Also standard is a 10.25-inch center display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and two USB ports.
