The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently published its results for their new, tougher side-impact crash test. The all-new test procedure was designed to address higher-speed crashes, which are still the cause of many fatalities each year.
Of the 20 small SUVs tested (including Audi, Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Volvo and many more), only the 2021 Mazda CX-5 earned a rating of Good. The updated test strikes the side of the vehicle with a heavier barrier at a higher speed than ever before! The Good rating for the 2021 Mazda CX-5 shows that robust protection in a more severe side crash is achievable.
