Chandler Mazda Shoppers Compare
The 2020 Mazda6 vs 2020 Hyundai Sonata

Many car shoppers appreciate the practicality of a midsize sedan. Currently available at the Chandler area Mazda dealership, the 2020 Mazda6 is among the top cars in the segment. Drivers enjoy its luxurious cabin, sporty performance and value-packed features. Let’s find out how the 2020 Mazda6 compares to the 2020 Hyundai Sonata.

Handling
Both the 2020 Mazda6 and the 2020 Hyundai Sonata handle well. However, the Mazda6 comes standard with G-Vectoring Control Plus. By slightly reducing engine torque when cornering, this feature enhances the Mazda6’s stability. It also shifts weight onto the front tires for better grip. You won’t find a feature similar to G-Vectoring Control Plus on the Sonata.

Interior Room
Like the Mazda6, the Sonata seats up to five people. However, your family and friends will prefer the Mazda6’s more accommodating backseat. When sitting in the rear of the Mazda6, passengers will have an extra 3.9 inches of legroom.

Standard Features
A few more premium features come standard on the Mazda6. While dual-zone automatic climate control enhances comfort, rain-sensing wipers prepare you to face wet weather. To get these amenities, Sonata buyers are forced to move up to a more expensive trim.

Luxury
Upgrades such as ventilated front seats and heated rear seats are available for both cars. Nevertheless, most people will find the Mazda6 to be a more luxurious ride. This is especially true for the range-topping Mazda6 Signature trim. Nappa leather upholstery, genuine Sen wood interior accents and a black headliner give this trim an extremely plush feel.

Performance

When test driving the new Mazda6 at the Mazda dealer near Chandler, you’ll have two different powertrains to choose from. A turbocharged 2.5-liter SkyActiv four-cylinder engine is found on the upper trim levels. It develops 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The Hyundai Sonata’s available 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine isn’t nearly as strong. Hyundai rates it to produce 180 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque.

Safety

Whether you choose the Mazda6 or the Sonata, you’ll enjoy excellent impact protection. They both earned an NHTSA five-star overall safety rating. However, only the Mazda6 receives standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. By detecting unseen vehicles, this valuable safety feature enhances your level of awareness. Adaptive LED headlights are also exclusively available on the Mazda6, which improve visibility around corners.

Infotainment
You’ll enjoy using the Mazda6’s infotainment system. It provides a Commander Control knob for easier operation while on the road. This convenient feature is not available for the Sonata’s infotainment system.

Appearance
Most people agree the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is an attractive car. However, it doesn’t look as elegant as the 2020 Mazda6. Sleek lines and a sporty front fascia help the Mazda6 to stand out. Meanwhile, available 19-inch alloy wheels enhance the Mazda6’s athletic stance.

Our Conclusion
Although the 2020 Hyundai Sonata has some standout qualities, it loses this head-to-head comparison. The 2020 Mazda6 is more entertaining to drive, offers a greater sense of luxury, and provides significantly more rear legroom.

PERFORMANCE

i-ACTIV AWD®

Wet, dry, snow or dirt, regardless of the surface, traction is best when the tire is pressing harder into the ground. So i-Activ AWD uses data from the car’s g-sensors to calculate how weight is shifting from tire to tire as you drive, and sends torque to the tires that can generate the most grip in every instant, helping improve performance in any weather.

THE EXCLAMATION MARKS OF TURBO

As a hatchback enthusiast, we know you’re not afraid to stand out. The Mazda3 2.5 Turbo Hatchback comes with a little more than a typical Mazda3, such as black alloy wheels, black side mirrors and a larger tail pipe. And with the optional Premium Plus Package, a front air dam and a black rear spoiler.
